"Japanese Black Pine"
A distinct tree with a rugged trunk and stout, twisted branches.
Valued in Japan where it is trained and trimmed into classical Japanese styles.
It has dark green, thick sharp needles.
In cultivation, it grows to approximately 3-4M in the first 10 years.
Trees of over 30 metres tall can be found in Japan.
Some of the oldest living bonsai are the Japenes Black Pines.
